In the 1920's African Americans helped improve life for themselves by finding their place in American culture. African Americans also created new things like jazz, and art that was loved by the general public.

Since the turn of the century, black southerners had been moving in large groups to Northern cities and industrial hubs. In the cities they had more access to higher educations and better ways of life. During the war the North quickly became segregated like the south even though there were no Jim Crow laws. Segregation in regiments for the war helped to spark the renaissance which eventually lead to the growth in African American pop culture in the United States. The Harlem Renaissance prompted an increase in African American literature, art, and music.

Thanks to the Harlem Renaissance, black pride and self worth increased a lot. African Americans were finally starting to feel welcome in America. people liked the jazz music, they liked the art, and they even liked the literature. The Harlem Renaissance gave African Americans the welcome that they had deserved, to step into America culture and help to add to it. The pride overall was boosted.
