Eventually immigration was slowed, but people still wanted to move to America and start a better life. Nativism was very strong during this period.

Sacco and Vanzetti were convicted of murdering a guard and a paymaster during an armed robbery of a shoe factory in Massachusetts. Many people disagreed with the verdict of death, sending in telegrams of protest, and writing newspaper articles. Many believe that Sacco and Vanzetti were tried and executed based on anti-Italian prejudice and because of their anarchist views.
